So we all know about Ken Jennings, his 74 game winning streak, and the $3MM+ he’s earned by being on Jeopardy.

Lesser known however is one Brad Rutter, who has earned even more money than Ken Jennings, has never lost in an appearance, including when he went toe to toe with the man the myth the legend himself, Ken Jennings

He’s been able to claim a Tournament of Champions, the Million Dollar Masters tourney, and the granddaddy of them all, the Ultimate Tournament of Champions, which pitted Tournament of Champions Champions against one another. Jennings has 0 titles to put under his belt, as well as 2 losses.

Still, even though he never had the opportunity to do so, he did not win 74 in a row, most of which were in dominating fashion, and become the most legendary Jeopardy player ever. Also, Jennings lost to Rutter after receiving a “bye” until the final round, so no doubt rust must’ve been a factor–whereas Rutter was well oiled in that final showdown.

I think a proper sports analogy would be to think of the Patriots/Colts up until last year.  While the Colts were putting up the more spectacular seasons, threatening to go undefeated, Manning/Marvin setting all sorts of records, and overall dominating their opponents to the point that it was laughable, it was always the Pats that won the Super Bowls, and won when it mattered.

Jennings accomplishments are more amazing and historic, but Rutter just did what he had to do, and it’s hard to argue with his results..

So who can really put a stake on the claim to “Mr. Jeopardy”?

Something to ponder the next time you’re in the shower..
